House Passes Rep. Susan Davis Resolution to Bolster House Legal Team for Impeachment Inquiry
A resolution (H. Res. 661) by Congresswoman Susan Davis (CA-53), a senior member of the House Administration Committee, was passed by the House authorizing the Office of General Counsel of the House of Representatives to retain outside counsel in support of the ongoing impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
“As the scope of the impeachment inquiry enters the next phase, this resolution will allow the House Counsel to obtain any necessary assistance of outside counsel to aid its office in this inquiry,” said Rep. Davis. “We need to have all the tools at our disposal to uncover the facts for the American people.”
Davis’s resolution is a companion resolution to the resolution (H. Res. 660) introduced by Rep. James P. McGovern, Chairman of the House Rules Committee, providing a clear path forward for open hearings on the President’s abuse of power. H.Res. 660 was approved by the House in October.
The Office of General Counsel falls under the jurisdiction of the House Administration Committee. H. Res. 661 was adopted when the House approved the rule for the Ex-Im Bank reauthorization.
